Go tell it on the mountain

Pastor reminded us that we are to be bearers of “good news.”
Those who have yet to know Jesus will often ask, “Where is your God?” when they see poverty or suffering. God’s children need to be ready to “make a defense” for our faith.
Making a defense or “Telling it on a mountain” is not limited to witnessing and apologetics. “Telling” is also for encouragement to brothers and sisters.
I do not like the phrase “God thing,” as in, “It was a God thing that occurred.”
While the intent is good, I find it belittling. It’s like seeing a picture of President Obama in a swimsuit. Where is the decorum? Please, God deserves more respect.
God communicated with me tonight.
We heat our home with wood. I have placed a cartop carrier next to our house to store the firewood. I keep very little wood in the house. As I frequently get up during the night to feed the fire, I keep the lid open on the carrier. I don’t mind closing it, but when I get up in the middle of the night, the last thing I want to do is wake up. In other words, I want to go out in the freezing night, grab wood, toss it in the stove and get back to sleep. Opening and closing the top causes me to spend more time outside than necessary.
Tonight I looked up into the very black sky and thought, “Is it going to rain/snow. Should I shut the lid?” I bent to pick up some wood and felt something hit the top of my head. Without thinking (a habit of mine), I looked up, saw no bird and felt my head. It was wet. One drop hit me in the head.
OK, Lord, I’ll close the lid. I can’t wait to see how much rain, sleet or snow we have in the morning.
Is this an earth shattering (Who would want that?) event that will make the evening news? No, but God still speaks in a gentle voice (I Kings 19:11 ff). |
